You would think that having 2 kids of her own that mum would know that when there is a little kid in the house and the house is quiet, their is a fair chance that trouble is brewing.

Tattoo ME

Everyone knows that you should love and respect yourself but every now and then it is easy to forget. With all of the crazy busy that has been happening around here lately, I thought I might need a little reminder so I wrote "I (heart) ME" on my hand. Of course I didn't have a shower before I went to bed and this happened...

Kids of Social Mums Say...

Every now and then mum will go off and meet up with some other bloggy folk and have a great time.  She will come home talking about all the cool people she met and the fun things that she got to do.  Well finally mum let us come along to a bloggy day - we went to Social Mums Say at Fed Square.

I overheard mum tell dad that if we thought it was lame that we could go hang out in the park and she would have fun with Milla.  Well I am happy to say that I had a great time and didn't want to escape at all, I could have stayed even longer!

The highlight of the day for me was hanging out and using all of the Micador products.  I decorated a folder that will look awesome in my new bedroom.  Who knew you could have so much fun with a folder and some washi tape!

Once I finished decorating my folder, it was time to try out the Clouds Modelling Foam.  I loved playing with the foam but because so many kids had played with it all morning, the colours were all mixed up.  I fixed that - I started to sort it out into colours so that the other kids could play with it properly.

OCD much?

Even Milla liked playing with the Cloud Foam and sorting it into proper colours!

It seems OCD may just be contagious!

The weather is warming up so it is time to make myself a refreshing drink.

Equipment and Ingredients
A tall glass
Apple and blackcurrent juice
Sodawater to add some fizz (I love using the SodaStream)
Ice
Strawberries
Kiwifruit
and of course a decorative umbrella (


Now if you are like me and you don't have any little paper umbrellas to put into your refreshing drink, don't panic, you can make one.  All you need is a circle of paper, a toothpick and some tape and you can have an umbrella to add to your drink to make it even better, because everyone knows that a drink that has an umbrella in it is so much better than a drink without an umbrella!

Daisy Chains

A few years ago mum taught me how to make daisy chains and now, every Spring I look forward to being able to make more. 

 There were so many daisies in the streets around nan and pop's place and down near the lake that I could have spent all day long picking daisies.

I didn't have enough time to sit there all afternoon, instead I picked a bunch to make a chain (or 2) so that I had a necklace to wear back to Melbourne.

Sticker Fun

A group of girls and a couple of packs of face and body paint stickers and I expected the house to be filled with princesses covered in pretty flowers and jewels wanting to run upstairs to find some pretty dress-ups to put on.  Oh how I was wrong.  Firstly, the sparkly, flowery, pretty stickers were the last to be grabbed, the priority was on tomahawks and feathered headdress stickers, followed by handcuffs and pirates!

So many choices!

The stickers were designed for kids 3+, so there really was no challenge in getting the stickers off the card and onto their faces...

...or onto their bodies!  This meant I was able to sit back and giggle at their antics rather than be actively involved in peeling and sticking the stickers.

Of course, next came the competition to see how many stickers you could fit onto a single person - I think a couple of the girls had more than 30 stickers covering decorating their body.


The end result, a very happy group of 8 year olds who had a great time creating with friends.  The biggest bonus - they could go home with the stickers on and re-use them again if they they chose.  There was no mess, no face paint on clothing, all in all no hassle but heaps of fun.

Of course, the girls didn't stop there, Milla had seen the old-school face paint that I had left on the bench.

Gruesome beats pretty!

Knowing that they had grown out of the desire to want to be pretty and girly, I shouldn't have been surprised when they wanted to use the face paints to make wounds, scars and blood!


So the activity didn't take place quite as I had anticipated but with a smile like this, it is pretty evident that she had a great time.

A very happy 'princess'!

As an added bonus, we now have a pile of stickers that we can re-use should the opportunity arise.  Of course that isn't likely, she has already found and alternative use for them.  She reasoned that if they can stick to skin and peel off without hurting, that surely they can stick to books or the walls of her bedroom and can be removed without causing any damage.  Fortunately she was right, the paintwork in her room isn't damaged and she has a new decorations around her bed and on some of her folders!

... and these are the ones I saved these for when my nephew comes over to play!  Hindsight and I would have given the girls the monster pack to use but when I realised they were in to gore, I was too busy laughing at them to walk back upstairs to get the extra pack.

AJ's Boat of Life

Everyone knows that Milli is the artist in our family.  She is the one who is ALWAYS drawing, paining or creating.  She will use ANYTHING for her creations.  If she can't find a scrap of paper to draw on, she is more than happy to draw on her arms or even her legs.

Did you know that she isn't the only artist in the family, I love to create too and I had some of my art on display at the Art Soiree.  I think that art is a great way to tell a story or to share how you are feeling.

I created this piece called the Boat of Life.  It is a small boat (that actually floats and can carry small treasures!) made from metal shim and wire.

If you can't read the artist's notes under the boat, it pretty much explains why I have made the boat the way that I have.   I have made a scout sign to go on the front of the boat to remind me not to give up as I travel across the difficult sea that is life.  There is also a lantern at the back of the boat to shine a light on  the water as I travel through life, to guide the way.

One day I would like to make a bigger Boat of Life and travel everywhere to have adventures.

Art Soiree

Today we had a special event after school, an Art Soiree where all of our wonderful creations were on display all around the school for everyone to enjoy.

I had two pieces on display,the first one was a totem pole that I decorated with my friend.  It is called 'the Ocean'.  We painted it blue to represent the calm feeling of the ocean.  Even though I look kind of crazy and freaked out in the photo, it was because I was excited to see my art on display instead

I did have another piece on display, a miniature puppet that I made - isn't it cute!

I don't think that the artwork that I have done at school this year is my best work, but I have still have fun making it.

Seeing other people appreciate my creations (and everyone else's creations too!) has made me want to create some more masterpieces.

What is Art?

I figure that art can be pretty much anything.  It is something that you create to tell a story.  Sometimes people know what the story is even if you haven’t told them.  Other times you need to tell people what the story is and even if they don’t understand the story, they might still like looking at the art you have created.  

In the art show, I had one of my works on display - The Boat of Life.  

It represents a journey in life, it shows that even though you never give up and have a light to shine the way, life is slowly ending.

The story Milla tells with her art is of making people happy, that is why she created a blue wool felt piece with her friend to represent the calm ocean.  

Milla also likes cute things that make people smile so she made a teddybear too!

You know, I think art can be fun for everyone.

Wordless(ish) Wednesday - Fireflies

Even though Fireflies is the name of this post, it isn't about the twinkly fireflies that I saw when I was in America when I was really little, it is about the song Fireflies.  I love this song.  I love it so much that instead of sleeping, I spent my time writing the lyrics to the song on a piece of masking tape!
