Worried

I was a little bit worried today, you see AJ couldn't go to school because his arm hurt too much and I didn't know if he would be feeling better after school because it is Bright Stars day and it is our end of term performance.

I was really happy when AJ was feeling a little bit better and could go to Bright Stars.
I did an extra good warmup to make sure my face muscles were ready to perform.

It was a great show and everyone loved it.  I can't wait for the school holiday workshop.

Good Neighbours

Well since I have been home from hospital, I have been pretty quiet and haven't done much at all, well except for sit on the couch and watch movies or sit outside and watch someone else play Wii.  All that changed this afternoon when we went to Circle Park to celebrate Neighbour Day.  It was great to go out into the sunshine and have some fun.

Of course I did have a dose of pain killers BEFORE I went to the picnic!
Best Friends - The Broken Arm Boys

But the real reason I was so happy is because my best friend is also my neighbour and he was at the picnic too.  It is fantastic to have so many great neighbours, I think that we should have Neighbour Day every weekend.

Neighbour Day

Did you celebrate Neighbour Day?  I did.  Neighbour Day is Australia's annual celebration of community, bringing together the people next door, across the street or on the net farm for a beer, a barbie or just a cuppa.

We celebrated by having a picnic in Circle Park.  Everyone was there and it was fantastic.
I was so busy drawing and crafting with my friends that I forgot to eat!

Don't forget to put the date in your calendar for next year - Sunday the 28th of March 2010.

Alexander and the No Good, Horrible, Very Bad Day

Well Thursday started just like any other day, I got up and got ready for school and had enough time to watch a bit of telly before we went to school.  Nothing unusual at all.  Everything stayed normal until snack time, then after a snack it was time to go out for a play and that was when it started to go wrong.  I played in the back park and slipped on the fort.  Instead of landing in motor bike like I learnt at circus, I was so off balance that I landed on my arm.  I don't remember too much about what happened next, but I think my friend Nathan walked to the sick bay with me.  The people in the office got a bit of a fright when they saw me - I was really upset and my arm looked a little strange, so they called mum to come and get me.

When mum (finally) arrived, she took one look at me and decided that I needed to go to the hospital.  I really didn't want to go in an ambulance, so mum promised to drive me there.  Even though she drove really carefully and slowly, I found out that there were far too many bumps in the road between school and the Royal Children's Hospital.

When we made it to the hospital, they got a special chair for me and pushed me into a room to rest.  Lots of different doctors and nurses came to check on me.  They gave me two different types of medicine to make it stop hurting, but they didn't work very well.  Then they put a straw into my arm so that they could give me some more medicine.  Even though the needle that put the straw into my arm hurt, the medicine was really good and it made the pain go away.  They put some plaster and a bandage on my arm to keep it still so that I could keep relaxing.

Finally I went and had an xray of my arm.  I didn't get to see the photos, but mum said that they were really awesome - the end of my humerus, that is the bone just above my elbow had snapped off completely.  I had to wait for the orthopedic surgeon to come and talk to me.  He told me that I had to have an operation to join my arm bones back together, and maybe they would pin the bones back together.  I didn't mind waiting or an operation, the bad part was not being allowed to eat or drink anything until AFTER the operation.  There was really nothing to do other than sleep!

Just before 7 o'clock, they drove my bed upstairs, it was almost my time for theatre.  I was really scared, but the doctors and the nurses were really good and told me all about what they were going to do and explained that I would have some special sleepy medicine to make sure I stayed asleep.

Mum was allowed to come into the start of the surgery, into the room where they gave me the sleepy medicine.  I really can't remember anything other than mum holding my hand and brushing my hair out of my eyes.  Apparently I was in surgery for almost 3 hours.  I had a condylar fracture of my humerus and they had to cut open my arm to fix it.  They used two meccano screws to join my humerus back together.  The doctors found that my elbow was dislocated and that even if the bone was joined back together, it wasn't in the right place and they needed to move it to the right place and then put all my muscles and tendons back where they should be.

When I was taken off the sleepy medicine and taken from the theatre, I didn't want to wake up.  The nurses, mum and dad couldn't wake me up, even when dad was decorating my head with chips or tissues or dripping water on my head - I was just too tired.  Eventually the recovery nurses decided that I wasn't going to wake up so they moved me to my new bedroom on 4 Main.

When I eventually did wake up, I was starving.  I didn't care that it was only 3 in the morning, I needed food.  I had fruit salad, yoghurt and jelly before I went back to sleep!  I didn't sleep for too long and I wanted more food.

I didn't have much fun in hospital.  The nurses and doctors were all really nice, but I didn't want to be there.  It was especially horrible when the other kids in my bedroom got to go home but I had to stay there another night.

Finally, after 2 nights in hospital and almost 48 hours, I could finally go home.  I am still really tired and sore but feeling much happier now that I am home.  Lots of people have already come to visit me - Nanny Pat, (Nanny Bette), Elba and of course Aunty Sharn and Ellen and they all love me so much that they have given me lots of new books, toys and sweets, so it is not all bad.

I think that I will even get a few more days off school,

Saturday School

When you find a new best friend, the best thing to do is to spend all day together, even if it means you have to go to school ON THE WEEKEND!  Luckily it wasn't my school, it was the school where Ellen teaches and we weren't going there to do school work, it was to go to the fete.

First we had a look around to see where all of the really good stuff to buy was.  Actually, we were just looking to see where the fizzy drinks were because we knew that our mum's were working and they wouldn't know that we were drinking it, so don't tell them!

After three cans of drink between us we had so much energy that we spent most of our afternoon playing hockey together.  I haven't played hockey much before, but I really liked it - maybe one day I will play hockey, who knows.

Anyway, when the hockey was packed up, the fete was nearly over.  We still had some money left so we went bargain shopping.  Everything was reduced so we could buy even more treasures.  At the start of the day, the rings that we wanted to buy were $3.  We managed to bargain Ellen down, so we could buy some bling for $0.50!

It was an awesome deal, don't we look too cool for school!

I can't wait until next weekend when I can play with my best friend again.

Harmony

To celebrate Harmony Week, we had a picnic at school.  It was great fun and everyone was there.  We had lots to eat, including lots of treat food and fizzy drink that sent us all a little crazy.
I got to play for hours and hours with my friends, until it got dark.

I had a great time.  I hope we get to have another school picnic soon.

Mango

What do you do when you go to a party?  Of course there is always plenty of yummy food that we wouldn't normally get to eat at home and fizzy drinks as a treat.  There were other kids to play with and heaps of toys, but this is the best thing to play with at a party...

This is Mango.  I took this photo and it is so beautiful that I can look at it forever.

I love this Mango almost as much as the mango that I eat.

Do you think that Mango can come and live with us?

Crazy People

Today was my first holiday from school, it was a public holiday and we all got to stay home.  To celebrate wanted to something together.  First we thought we might go to the city, but then thought that everybody would be at the city so then we thought about going to the zoo - I wanted to go to Melbourne Zoo and AJ wanted to go to the Werribee Zoo so that he could try and convince us to all go to Werribee Mansion instead.

Mum really didn't want to listen to us argue and convinced us that we should go to the beach instead.  The real reason we all decided to go to the beach was because Dad said he would go swimming with us!

It was nice and sunny at the beach, but it was really really cold in the water.  I didn't really want to go swimming but because Dad and AJ were already in the water I went in too.

It was really really cold!
It was much more fun playing in the sand instead!

I love school, but public holidays are heaps of fun too!

Bulldogs Roar

Finally we went to a Bulldogs celebration - the Western Bulldogs Family Fun Day in Footscray and it was fantastic.

There were gazillions of people there and heaps of things to do.  AJ played in a handball competition and won me a new football.  I was really proud of him for having fun at the Bulldogs and for winning me a prize!  We both won prizes in a spinning wheel and of course I had my teams colours painted on my face.

I had a great time at the Western Bulldogs Family Fun Day.  For some reason Dad thinks that we should go to the Magpies Family Day too!

What's Wrong With this Picture?

It could be that I am trying to sleep on a shelf in the Wii Room (garage), but it isn't...
It could be that I am pretending to be a baby and sucking on my thumb, but that isn't it either.

Look closely and you might work it out...
I am wearing my school uniform and it is Saturday!  I didn't forget that it was a weekend and I put on my uniform by mistake, it is because I forgot to take it off last night before I went to bed and now I am just to lazy to get changed!

New Friends

I have been making lots of new friends lately.  It is so good to know everyone who lives near here, it means that whenever I go to the park I am sure to find someone to play with.

Yesterday I was waiting to meet more new friends in the park, but they were running a little bit late (something about having to go to the hospital to have xrays) so I went to visit my newest neighbours so that I would have someone to play with as I waited.

We spent ages drawing pictures in the park, it was so much fun.

Eventually our new friends arrived, straight from the hospital (apparently if you fall from a flying fox you can break your arm!) to play with us.

It wasn't long before it started to get a little bit cold, so we went home.  We were about to order some take away for a dinner treat when our neighbours came over and invited us ALL over to their house for some home made pizza.  It was awesome, there was our family including Ellen, our new friends (all 5 of them) and our new neighbours (4 of them).  We all had dinner together and then the adults chatted and we had heaps of time to play.

We were all having such a great time together, that I invited the girls to stay at our house for a sleep over.
I love having a giant bed, there was room for 3 of us!

We didn't get much sleep, but we did help to make pancakes for breakfast - yum!

Another Festival

We have been so busy lately, there are so many different places to go and interesting things to do.

This afternoon we went to the Moonee Valley Festival in Queen's Park in Moonee Ponds.  It was great fun and there was heaps to do.  There were different bands playing on stage, people dancing, heaps of rides and different entertainers everywhere you looked, as well as the park to play in.  There were two really really great parts of the day...

meeting Angus Monfries

and rock climbing.

I had a great time at the festival this weekend.  I wonder what festival I will go to next?

Cleaning Up

Mum had to work again today, so we decided to help out.  You see mum was working at Clean Up Australia Day in Flemington.
We registered, collected some gloves and some rubbish bags and went exploring along the creek.  We weren't there very long and we managed to fill three giants bags with rubbish.

It makes me sad to think how much mess people make when they don't put their rubbish in the bin.  I am glad that we were able to help Clean Up Australia.
