Kids Cook Monday

Have I told you that the kids cook dinner at our house EVERY Monday?  We make all sorts of delicious meals... pumpkin risotto, chicken strips on kumera mash, creamy pasta, chicken curry our favourite - maggots!

Today shared our secret maggot recipe with Gabby, so we should share it with you too.

The superRelish Secret Maggot Recipe
  1. First you smash up heaps of rice bubbles and cornflakes into even smaller pieces.
  2. Then you dip the pieces of chicken into some mayonaise so that the bubbles and flakes will stick to the chicken.
  3. Then all you need to do is to put them into the oven to cook.
As the maggots are cooking, you need to peel some kumera.  We get mum to chop up the kumera into pieces to roast along with some potato and pumpkin.  Chop the tails off some snow peas and some beans and put them into the microwave to cook a bit.  While we wait, we chop up some tomatoes and cucumber to mix with some other salad.

Our maggots are delicious.  Fred and Tash loved them, even if they did think we were crazy for cooking our own dinner!  I don't think we are crazy, I would cook every night if I had time.

On Stage

We had our mid-year dance performance today.

This is AJ pretending he doesn't want to dance with me.  Don't worry, he did want to dance with me, he just didn't want his photo taken!

The day was fantastic.  We danced on stage for everyone to see and cheer.  Then when the performances were over we danced with our friends for hours and hours (and hours).

Don't you wish you could have spent hours watching us all dance?

Stretch

During the holidays, we are both going to do some drama classes for fun.  I practiced my acting in the park tonight.
This is me being a cat, having a stretch in the leaves.

I think that I will have fun at drama class.

Look Up

School is out and we are on holidays for 2 whole weeks.  There is so much to do, but first all the kids in the area had some serious park playing to keep us busy; soccer, climbing trees, footy, chasey, skipping and generally running wild.

Just as it was getting dark, some of the dad's decided to have a kick of the soccer ball too.  They are so talented that they kicked the ball into the tree.

Not just into the tree, but into the very top of the tree.

Looks like it might take a while to climb to the top.

Luckily we were able to shake the ball out of the tree.  It wouldn't be much fun not having all of my sports equipment to keep me busy during the holidays.

Peas Please

We were all late getting home tonight and I was starving.  I couldn't possibly wait until dinner time, I needed to eat straight away.  First I had a huge bowl of cornflakes, but I was still hungry and dinner still wasn't ready.  Next I had a bowl of peas.
Well I really should clarify, I had a bowl-sized clump of frozen peas.  They are great to eat when they are frozen, they stick together so you can eat them like an apple instead of trying to stab them with a fork.

Yep, they are delicious.  I ate all my peas, then all my dinner and then dessert too.
When is breakfast?

Taking a Break

Well I have been a circus star for over a year now, but it is time to say goodbye.  My class time (and Milla's too) has now been changed until Saturday afternoon.  That would mean that we couldn't go away for little holidays or go to other fun places without missing lots of classes, so we have decided to take a break for a while.
This was at me at the end of the mini-performance today.

I think I will miss doing all the amazing circus stunts and wearing lots of cool costumes.  I think I will start a new activity soon to keep me busy, I wonder what it will be?

Politically Active

Well we were looking forward to a quiet weekend, but then we remembered that there is a No Road Tunnel meeting tomorrow that we are going to go to.

Although there are hundreds of No Road Tunnel signs around Kensington, some people still want to build the tunnel and dig up our parks.  Pirate Park, known to lots of grown-ups as Holland Park, is far too important to dig up, see...

Help us save Holland Park and the other parks and wetlands that will be ruined to build the tunnel.  Check out the Kensington Association for information on how to save our parks.

All Wet

After school today I went to the swimming pool with AJ's class for a get-together.  The pool was packed with school kids and it was heaps of fun.
We were there for ages and AJ didn't want to go home.

Finally as it was getting dark, the pool party finished and we walked home.   I had a great time at the party, but I am really tired now.

Breakfast

AJ and I wanted fruit salad for breakfast this morning, but the only fruit we had left was mandarin and they really weren't that nice.  When mum and dad finally got out of bed, we went into the Queen Vic Market.

We found heaps of delicious fruit - bananas, watermelon, strawberries, rockermelon, apple, pear, grapes and tangelo - all perfect for a fruit salad.  The only problem was that the fruit was full, fresh and looked delicious but we had nowhere to cut it.

Do you know what we had instead?  Donuts!

We had fruit salad with our lunch instead.

Running Wild

We have been so busy lately that we haven't had a chance to visit cousins Zoe and Luca.  Since they are getting a new baby brother or sister really soon, we thought that we had better visit before the new baby arrives, so we can run wild and not worry about waking the baby.

We had heaps of fun together, running, playing, posing for crazy photos and then watching one of our favourite tv shows - 'Funniest Home Videos'.
We had great fun playing together, we will visit you and your new baby really soon.

Finger Knitting Fantastic

Today was the last day of a long weekend.  It was a little bit cold and it rained so we decided to stay inside.  We didn't want to just spend all day watching movies (well mum didn't want us to just spend all day in front of the telly) so we decided to do some knitting.
Instead of knitting with knitting needles, we used our fingers.

Finger knitting is fun, I helped mum to make a fluffy yellow scarf for me and Imade a scarf for Rosie my teddy all by myself.  If it stays cold, all my teddys will get new fluffy scarves too.

Reading to Nanny

Nanny dropped in for a visit to see us (and Aunty Sharn for her birthday).  I decided to show her just how much I know.  I read her some of my school work, where I made a book about 'ap' words.

(Soon I will post a video of me reading to nanny!)

Birthday Cake

It is Aunty Sharn's birthday today.  Since you can't have a real birthday without cake, I made her a delicious chocolate cake.  I even decorated the cake with enough candles for every birthday that Sharn has celebrated.

There were so many candles that we nearly had to call the fire brigade!

Happy birthday Aunty Sharn

Crazy Hair
The circus themes this term are fantastic.
Today it was crazy hair day.

Now that I have long hair, I can't do jelly hair (short and spiky), so I insisted on having nanny hair (that means parted to the side, slicked down and tucked behind my ears) with some spiky bits at the back.  I didn't want any piggie tails - they are for girls.

I was really happy with the finished product!

Milla wanted braids and twists but couldn't decide if she wanted to be a unicorn or a poodle!

All together, I think we make a crazy hair family!

Do you think mum should give up her day job and become a hairdresser?

Through Suburbia and into the Country...

We went to Sunbury today to visit Sebastian for his first birthday.
Do you think the birthday boy likes the present we gave him?

We had a great time eating far too much party food, making and flying kites and then playing in the park with all our cousins.   After singing happy birthday to Sebastian, the party was over.

After the party, we drove from suburbia all the way to the country, to visit Granddad in Gisborne.  Granddad's house is pretty small, so we went to the park to play instead.

We had to go across the creek to get to the park.

Then we climbed a gigantic tree to find the best place to play.

Milla flew into action and we all played for ages.

Dad and AJ climbed to the top of the web to see where else we could explore.

We explored along the creek and in the botanic gardens before it got too cold and it was time for home.

We think that this is our new favourite park.
