Lest We Forget

It isn't often that we are encouraged to get up early, especially when early is before the sun has even risen but today is a special day, it is ANZAC Day and we were going to the local dawn service.

Mum woke us super-dooper early, we put on our Scout and Cub uniforms, grabbed a croissant and a banana each before jumping in the car to head down to the local RSL. We (the Scouts and Cubs) had been invited to march with all the returned soldiers and their families before the service and then to go back to the RSL afterwards to have breakfast together.

It makes us really sad to think of all the people who were killed or injured at war but it is important to remember all of the people who have sacrificed so much so that we can be safe in Australia.

Thank you ANZACs,

Exploring the Streets

Very, very soon, I am going to move from Cubs to Scouts and I am pretty excited about it.  Sure Cubs is great fun but Scouts is even more awesome, the activities they get to do are pretty amazing.

Tonight, instead of going to my normal Cubs night, I joined the Scouts for an extra activity they were going to try - street orienteering.  Somehow I managed to get mum to come along and supervise our team (by supervise, I mean just make sure we didn't get completely lost or go over time) as we 'power walked' our way through the streets trying to find as many markers as we could.  We were out exploring the streets for an hour and covered 3 or 4km, finding heaps of different markers.

I am sure mum really really wanted to take pics of us in action but she was way too busy just trying to keep up with us as we tried not to run.  I never realised just how hard it is to try and walk when you are racing to find something!  Maybe next time we will sign up as a running team instead of a walking team.

Let me say it now - street orienteering is wicked, I can't wait to go again.

2IC

I've been promoted.  Look what I was awarded at Cubs tonight - a seconder badge.  That means that I am the second person in charge of Black Six.  Cool huh!

I survived camp :-)

Well I am exhausted from a weekend at camp.   It was good to know that AJ was there but even better to knowing that he had his own friends and that they would be too busy doing heaps of cool things that they wouldn't annoy me!

I had a ball playing on the beach, hanging out with friends, making new friends and sleeping in a tent.  I had so much fun that I want to know when the next camp is.  I think that mum wanted to get photos of me after camp but I was too tired and filthy.  I tried to have a shower but I don't really like cold water showers.  I would love to write more about the fun of camp but mum promised that if I have a rest this afternoon she will take me out for a surprise tonight so I am off to bed!

My First Cub Camping Trip

Friday afternoon is normally the time that I get to hang out with my friends and run about the neighbourhood playing but not this afternoon.  Instead I was busily checking off the items on my packing list and filling a giant backpack with everything I would need for a weekend camping with my cub pack.

I am only going camping for 2 nights but I am pretty sure that it is going to rain all weekend so I packed more clothes than the list suggested.  I figure that even if I don't get wet and muddy, I am pretty sure I will get changed more than I need to!

I am a little nervous about going camping without my family but I know I will have fun.
Excited and just a little bit nervous!

I am sure that AJ will look after me if I get a little bit sad or lonely when I am on camp.  Even though I won't tell anyone at camp, I am glad that he will be there with me.

All packed and ready to go.

Let's go!

The Cub Princess

Today was the day, the day that I have been practicing so hard for, it was the day that I was invested into my Cub Scout group.

I joined as a new chum a while back with my friends and we were all going to be invested together but then I went away on holidays.  My friends were invested when I was away and I had to be invested all on my own.

I was so nervous.  Can you tell?

Now that I am a real cub I am not so nervous.  I am looking forward to earning millions of badges to cover my entire uniform!

One of the Pack!
I have been going to Cubs for a little while now and tonight was my big night - I was invested.
This is the sign that met me at the door.

Making my promise.

Getting my woggle.

All badged and ready to go.

Hooray, now I am a real Cub,

Scouting

Look at me, I am a cub!
Well I am almost a cub - I know the secret handshake so some time soon I will get to be a real cub. I would love to stay and tell you more about it but now I am heading out for my first cub expedition!
