Tattoo ME

Everyone knows that you should love and respect yourself but every now and then it is easy to forget. With all of the crazy busy that has been happening around here lately, I thought I might need a little reminder so I wrote "I (heart) ME" on my hand. Of course I didn't have a shower before I went to bed and this happened...

Sundays in my City #17 - Sculptures in Melbourne

Finally we get the chance to join in the fun of Sundays in my City after we have had the chance to go and explore the city.  We spent the morning looking for Mali statues - life sized baby elephants that are on display to celebrate the 150th birthday of the Melbourne Zoo.  There is a post here about the 16 elephants we found yesterday.  Along the way we found some of Melbourne's amazing sculptures to share.

And this is my very favourite sculpture... The cow in the tree

And just because we had so much fun finding Mali's yesterday, here are a few more Mali pics.

It is days like this that remind me of just how much I love Melbourne.

AJ's Boat of Life

Everyone knows that Milli is the artist in our family.  She is the one who is ALWAYS drawing, paining or creating.  She will use ANYTHING for her creations.  If she can't find a scrap of paper to draw on, she is more than happy to draw on her arms or even her legs.

Did you know that she isn't the only artist in the family, I love to create too and I had some of my art on display at the Art Soiree.  I think that art is a great way to tell a story or to share how you are feeling.

I created this piece called the Boat of Life.  It is a small boat (that actually floats and can carry small treasures!) made from metal shim and wire.

If you can't read the artist's notes under the boat, it pretty much explains why I have made the boat the way that I have.   I have made a scout sign to go on the front of the boat to remind me not to give up as I travel across the difficult sea that is life.  There is also a lantern at the back of the boat to shine a light on  the water as I travel through life, to guide the way.

One day I would like to make a bigger Boat of Life and travel everywhere to have adventures.

Art Soiree

Today we had a special event after school, an Art Soiree where all of our wonderful creations were on display all around the school for everyone to enjoy.

I had two pieces on display, the first one was a totem pole that I decorated with my friend.  It is called 'the Ocean'.  We painted it blue to represent the calm feeling of the ocean.  Even though I look kind of crazy and freaked out in the photo, it was because I was excited to see my art on display instead

I did have another piece on display, a miniature puppet that I made - isn't it cute!

I don't think that the artwork that I have done at school this year is my best work, but I have still have fun making it.

Seeing other people appreciate my creations (and everyone else's creations too!) has made me want to create some more masterpieces.

What is Art?

I figure that art can be pretty much anything.  It is something that you create to tell a story.  Sometimes people know what the story is even if you haven’t told them.  Other times you need to tell people what the story is and even if they don’t understand the story, they might still like looking at the art you have created.

In the art show, I had one of my works on display - The Boat of Life.
It represents a journey in life, it shows that even though you never give up and have a light to shine the way, life is slowly ending.

The story Milla tells with her art is of making people happy, that is why she created a blue wool felt piece with her friend to represent the calm ocean.

Milla also likes cute things that make people smile so she made a teddybear too!

You know, I think art can be fun for everyone.

Wordless(ish) Wednesday - Fireflies

Even though Fireflies is the name of this post, it isn't about the twinkly fireflies that I saw when I was in America when I was really little, it is about the song Fireflies.  I love this song.  I love it so much that instead of sleeping, I spent my time writing the lyrics to the song on a piece of masking tape!

(Excuse the spelling, remember I am only 8!)

OK, so even the photos aren't wordless but I wanted to share!

Sad and Angry

Today was to be a fantastic day, it was the day that the blanket for the bridge was being officially opened. Unfortunately that didn't happen, some selfish rude people cut the entire Big Knit from the bridge. Instead of being a blanket over the bridge it was hanging in tatters from the bottom of the bridge, dragging in the water.

Luckily some smaller pieces weren't destroyed.
Even though the Big Knit wasn't what it should have been, there was still a celebration that we went to and I even dressed up in 'wool' decorations again.
It rained for most of it but it was heaps of fun, we even learnt an old fashioned dance, something called Flashdance! I had never heard of it but it was fun.
We tried to hide from the rain but we were all soaking wet.
Even if it was cold wet and miserable, even if the bridge blanket didn't look the way it was supposed to I still thought it was beautiful and I had fun!

Knitting Big

Look what we found when we went for a walk this afternoon, some giant knitting!

Even the pretend 'wool' was ginormous!
Giant 'wool'

There are a group of artists who are knitting a gigantic blanket for the bridge. We decided to see if we could help them. The knitting needles were too big for us to use so we tried to do some 'arm knitting' instead, like finger knitting but using our arm instead. We were even allowed to get some left overs to make some costumes to wear to the opening of the Big Knit.

Tying myself up in 'wool'

I think I will wear this to the grand opening!

I can't wait to see what the bridge blanket looks like when it is all finished.

Rainbow Road

So I know that AJ said we didn't have anything to do this weekend, what he really meant to say was that we didn't have any kid parties or things to do this weekend. Instead we had a grown up party to go to. Now at some of the grown up places we go to there is nothing for the kids to do. We were really lucky at this party, there was Wii to play and that kept AJ busy and happy. I was even luckier I had a box of chalk to decorate the garden pavers.
I had a great afternoon decorating the rainbow road.

I think dad had a pretty good afternoon too.

I think that all parties should have a box of chalk and somewhere for dad to sleep!

Fun in the Park

Well this weekend has been all about what AJ wants to do because it is his birthday, but don't worry I have had plenty of time to do things that I love too.  This afternoon we went to the park for a little fun.

Invite

Now that I am 5, I can give out the invitations to my birthday party this weekend.  I am going to invite my best friends to come to my house for a dance party.

First we will all make tutus to dance in, then we will have our own dance class and learn a dance routine.  When the parents come back we will all put on a show for them.  It should be great fun.

I think that I will love being 5!

My Surprise

Look what I did instead of going to sleep last night - I drew a picture of me really happy after reading my new book.
I wonder if mum will let me cut this picture out of my writing book?

Perhaps I will have to just draw more Surprise! pictures...

Feeling Blue

I don't think that I will colour my face with texta again in a hurry.
Look what I looked like when I went to school today!

If I had a dollar for every time I had to explain why I was so blue I would have a DS by now.

At least my face matched my school uniform!

I'm NOT Tired

Tonight when we went to bed, we promised mum that we wouldn't be noisy and crazy and that we would go to sleep...

We didn't promise that we would go straight to sleep!

I wonder if we will be allowed to have textas in our bedroom anymore?

Art Auctions

Tonight was my first ever art show at school.  It was really cool.  Everyone came to have a look at the amazing pieces of art that the school kids have made.  I had 2 pieces of art on display, the first was a pot person that I made with some of my friends.  The second was a fighter jet sculpture.
This is my fighter jet (it is late at night so the jet is tired!)

As well as looking at all of the art, there was an auction for all of the class pieces of art.  My class had 4 pieces for auction, 2 entire group self portraits with an olympic theme, another self portrait on trains and my favourite piece 'Who Sank the Boat' where we all did self portraits of us on a boat.

I really wanted to buy the last piece of work and dad tried to buy it for me, but he chickened out of the auction when it hit $350.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the best piece of art in the entire auction, but then I figured that if dad was going to spend that much on a picture for my new bedroom, perhaps I can get him to buy me a DS!

What do you think?

Pictures for Dad

Tomorrow it is Father's Day. I have made 2 pictures of the things that I love to do with my dad. I love it when we play footy together and I love making Lego cities with Dad.

Other than make the Lego that we are going to give to dad, I wonder what exciting things we will do to celebrate Father's Day?

The Photo Book

My literacy group has just read 'The Photo Book'. It was a really interesting book all about family photos in a book. We all liked the book so much that we made our own photo books with pictures of our family in it.

I drew pictures of my family all wearing football colours. Naturally, Milli is a Bulldog and mum is a Kangaroo, they are both wearing dresses. I am a Bomber and dad is a Magpie, .

When all of our pictures were finished, we read the real book to the rest of the class and showed everyone our photo books.

Waste Not Want Not

As I was drawing my series of pictures to tell the story about catching a robber, my pencil broke.
I didn't let that stop me from finishing my school work!

Although I did the entire story with only the small piece of lead from my pencil, it was a pretty awesome story. The good guys (that's me and dad) fell into a big hole that was getting filled up with water, luckily they drained the water into the sand and were able to catch the robber.
