A Lesson for Mum

Dear Mum,

I know that you are a grown up and that you know heaps of stuff but you don't know everything.

One thing that you clearly didn't know is that light on the dash that comes on when the car is starting to run low on petrol is there for a reason.  I am pretty sure that reason is to let you know that you need to put petrol in the car OR prepare to walk home.  Sure when the warning light really starts to flash it is a suggestion that there is probably enough fuel in the tank to drive 50km but that doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to drive a further 50km before filling up with fuel.  That suggestion to re-fuel is probably a good one to follow, even if we only have a 13.4km round trip to get home!

I do appreciate that you didn't stop for fuel on the way to pick me up from hockey because you didn't want to be late, I also appreciate that you didn't want to stop for fuel on the way home because I was super tired.  What I didn't really appreciate the walk home, in the dark when I was super tired, after the car chugged to a stop about a kilometre from home.

Luckily Dad and Wayne came to the rescue, getting some petrol and collecting the car.

Love an even more tired than expected,
Pickle Monster

PS - I think we should keep this handy, just in case you forget to take note of further suggestions!

Freaking Friday

Now normally when it gets to Friday everyone is all "Thank God it's Friday", today that thought is followed by "freaking Friday!"

In the hour that we have been awake this is what has happened so far

  1. We found the wool felt that was soaking overnight in green food dye on the floor with green dye splashed all over the place, with cute little kitten footprints through it.
  2. A plate 'jumped' off the bench and smashed into a bajillion pieces.
  3. A crazy kitten went for a kamikaze run across the table and knocked mum's cup of tea over (did I mention that we were out of milk and that the tea was made using a funky lactose free UHT milk!)
Surprisingly there have been no tears or screeching by anyone in the house (yet!) but I have a sneaking suspicion that mum might just go back to bed and imagine that today isn't happening once we go to school!

We hope that your Friday is off to a better start!
Love AJ and Milla

edited to add
PS - a few more extra choice words that were nastier than 'freaking' may have been heard when mum got a parking ticket because she was at work for too long!  She really should have gone back to bed.

Dramas

We have been in the States for more than a week and have had an awesome time.  Everything we have done has been so much fun and surprisingly hassle free, even the delays, the really long flights, transit times and overnight train rides (well except for losing a diary on the Amtrak!) that it was inevitable that something would go wrong.  Well go wrong it did.  First there was the arrival at Buffalo airport only to find that our flight had been delayed for a billion hours.  OK, so it was probably only 3 hours, but 3 hours feels like forever when you are in a tiny little airport and there isn't much to do.  The best part of being trapped in Buffalo was eating Buffalo Wings - who knew buffalo had wings?

Anyway, eventually our flight was scheduled, the very last flight of the night in the airport, so it was already way past our bedtime and we were starting to get really tired.  Luckily the flight to Boston was short, it took as long to get our stuff from baggage collection at the airport to the hotel as it did to fly from Buffalo!

When we got to the hotel was when the next catastrophe occurred.  We found out that somehow when we cancelled one of the nights at the hotel they cancelled the entire booking!  So here we are, stuck in a fancy-schmancy hotel in Boston with no booking and no rooms available.  Luckily the concierge was really nice and he called another hotel just up the road, found us a vacancy (in a place that was really nice and had a swimming pool) and then helped to take all our bags over there.

So there you go, a few minor dramas but now we get to sleep in a great hotel and wake up ready to explore another new city.

School Holiday Fun

For the last 3 days we have been at a school holiday program and it was awesome.  We did rap, hip hop, puppetry and animations.  Click here for AJ's animation and here for Milla's animation.

If the animations didn't impress you, check out our rap.  We all wrote our own parts about things that make us feel good.
It was a great school holiday program,

Taking a Bow

Every morning this week I have been going along to Bright Stars.  This program we are performing Jack and the Bean Stalk.  It is a really small class and a really really long script with heaps of different characters.  I have had lots and lots of lines to learn for all of the different characters that I play.

When the play starts I am the farm girl that plays with Jack before he sells his cow.  Then I am the dog on the farm and then when Jack goes to climb up to the top of the bean stalk I am part of the bean stalk.  Then I am the hen that lays a golden egg.  Can you believe that I actually have to lay an egg during the performance!

As well as learning all of my lines an working out costume changes for each character, I was also the narrator that told the story in between all of the acting, singing and dancing.  As you can imagine, it is pretty exhausting, but the show was great fun and everyone loved it!

Taking a bow!
Except for the Giant, this is the entire cast of Jack and the Bean Stalk!

Mum was too busy enjoying the show to take heaps of photos of just me.  I don't really know the other kids in the class, so I didn't think that I should put their photos all over the internet, so I edited the photo and used one of almost the entire class!  Maybe if poppy has a better photo, I will post it instead.

I really love acting, singing and dancing.
I wonder what we will perform next term at Bright Stars?

Worried

I was a little bit worried today, you see AJ couldn't go to school because his arm hurt too much and I didn't know if he would be feeling better after school because it is Bright Stars day and it is our end of term performance.

I was really happy when AJ was feeling a little bit better and could go to Bright Stars.
I did an extra good warmup to make sure my face muscles were ready to perform.

It was a great show and everyone loved it.  I can't wait for the school holiday workshop.

Around the World

This week we have been traveling all around the world in just first day.  We have visited London,Paris, Greece, Africa, Japan, Mexico and then came all the way back to Australia.  We didn't actually go anywhere except to Brightstars where we got to learn songs and dances from all different places.  It was great fun, and the best part was that we got to dress up again!

I have grown just a little bit since the last time I wore my Niki-no-no (that is Milla speak for kimono or yukata) so mum had to stay up late and make me a new one.
Do you like it?
I even wore my chopsticks in my hair, but the pic won't upload (I will try again another day)!

AJ didn't want to be left out, so mum made him a new happi coat so he could pretend he was going to go to a Japanese festival.  I think he was pretty happy, what do you think?

We had so much fun, I can't wait until Brightstars starts again,

Performing

I didn't go to school today because I was too sick.  I really was sick - I spent all weekend sleeping.  I didn't really want to go to Bright Stars either, but it was the end of term performance and Milli really wanted to go and I wasn't allowed to stay home by myself.  Instead I put on my favourite costume and off I went.

Luckily wearing my Harry Potter costume gives me some extra energy.

Milli had fun too, even if she did pretend she was shy!

We played games, danced and sang songs and naturally all of the parents clapped and cheered.  It was fun and I am glad that I went.

Stretch

During the holidays, we are both going to do some drama classes for fun.  I practiced my acting in the park tonight.
This is me being a cat, having a stretch in the leaves.

I think that I will have fun at drama class.

Oh No!
Well we have been far too busy to keep our blog up-to-date. Instead we planned to fill in the gaps during the week. Just when we were ready to start telling all about our adventures, the computer turned itself off and left us a message saying something like, "the computer shutdown due to a thermal event", and wouldn't turn back on.

What is a thermal event? It sounds like it should be something volcanic but there was no lava around. The computer wasn't even hot and nothing smelled like it was burning so we couldn't work out what the thermal event was, all we knew is that the computer wouldn't work!

Well you can imagine the panic in the house. Mum was nearly hysterical - "S**T, I haven't copied my files and photos to the external hard drive!" and dad was annoyed that the computer crashed just when he was planning a quiet night of poker.

Milli and I went to bed and mum and dad spent the night painstakingly copying files to the external drive. Hopefully the important files have been saved but we can't use the internet unless dad brings his computer home from work.

Anyway, it isn't likely that we will have access to the internet all of the time, so we will have to write down our adventures, take heaps of photos and update the blog eventually.
Here are some of the stories we still have to tell you about,
  • new neighbours
  • a review of Milla the TV star
  • Student of the Week
  • Bungee
  • Wonderful Magical Creatures
  • Mid Year Performances
  • and heaps more

Hopefully it won't be too long before we are living in the cyber world again,

Love AJ and Milla
