Pyjama Rules

It is late in the day and mum and dad are heading home but I'm not, I'm on holidays and spending the rest of the week at nan and pop's house.

Sometimes, depending on where I am, the holiday rules change and one of these rules is about pyjamas. You see, nan and pop are fans of pajamas and they like me to wear them to bed EVERY NIGHT! They like pyjamas so much that they gave me a new pair for Easter, in case I forgot to pack any! If I was the boss of everything, I would happily sleep in some version of the clothes I wore that day. It saves so much time and effort if I do, it means that I can pretty much just get up and go the next day and ultimately it means that less clothes are put into the wash because I am too busy to put them away. This whole 'wearing pyjamas' thing means that I have to get changed. Or do I...?

I figure if it is expected that I wear pyjamas to bed, why not just wear them all day long, then I will save time and be ready for bed so much quicker!

Happy holidays,
Love AJ Pickle

PS - I thought that wearing my PJs all morning could be a good April Fool's Day trick but I was so comfortable that I decided that it could possibly be an every day trick!

When Holidays are Hard Work

Some times it is hard work having holidays.  There are sleep overs to be had, late nights, junk food, far too much running crazy and with friends and this time of year, too much swimming and sun.

I have had an awesome holiday so far but at this rate, I think I will need a holiday to recover from my holiday.

Making friends

I love having holidays with Nan and Pop, I get to go to the lake with my friends almost every day.
Oh and speaking of friends, I have made even more new friends this holiday.
I love hanging out with friends.
There were heaps of people at the lake today so it was a miracle that we found this little guy!

Might as well JUMP!

For some reason whenever mum sees these photos, she starts singing this 'Jump' song.  I don't know the song, I think it must be from the olden days, either that or mum is such an ordinary (that is a nice way of saying terrible) singer that it is unrecognisable!  Anyway, if you were about in the olden days, you probably have that song stuck in your head too :-)

I guess if you are now singing or humming along to the tune, I might as well show you the photos.

Might as well JUMP!
Ed joined in the fun
Even Billy went for a jump!
Don't you wish you were relaxing on the banks of the lake watching us jump, better still jumping too?

A Smashing Good Time

When Adam and Melati were on their way home from Christmas celebrations at Nan and Pop's house, Melati remembered that we hadn't smashed the Gingerbread House that she had made for us.  We would have smashed it then but we were all so full that we just couldn't eat another thing so she made us promise that we would smash it on Boxing Day.

If mum were quicker she might of managed to get a before photo!  Oh well, here is the destruction in progress.

I'm still not very hungry, but that's OK, Billy will eat all of the gingerbread and the decorations.

Daisy Chains

A few years ago mum taught me how to make daisy chains and now, every Spring I look forward to being able to make more.

There were so many daisies in the streets around nan and pop's place and down near the lake that I could have spent all day long picking daisies.

I didn't have enough time to sit there all afternoon, instead I picked a bunch to make a chain (or 2) so that I had a necklace to wear back to Melbourne.

I hope you are lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful spring weather too.

70 x 2

Friday was a pretty special day, it was the day that our Nanna Pat and her twin sister Aunty/Nanny Bette celebrated their 70th birthdays.  We know Aunty/Nanna Bette isn't really our Nanna, she is our great aunt but since they are twins and they look so alike, sometimes we get confused and we just call them both Nanna!
Aunty/Nanna Bette and Nanna Pat - 70 years and 1 day old!
The nannas didn't know about it, but the kids, grandkids and some of the nieces and nephews had a surprise planned, we had organised to all go out for lunch together and then to a winery.  First we had to get everyone there.  Now I guess most people would just meet wherever we were going but this is no ordinary family, this is a family that likes to have fun, so we all caught a bus out to lunch!

I am pretty sure all the trouble makers are up the back!
We headed out to Byramine Homestead for a great lunch and birthday cake, as well as an explore of the area.  The kids got to have a party lunch - can you imagine just how crazy it was with so many of us hyped up on junk food and fizzy drink!

Some of the boys, replenishing the energy supplies.
Most of the adults didn't mind, they were enjoying some of this!

Drinks for the grown-ups
Even when we caught the bus back to town, the party wasn't over.  Really, it was just beginning.  There was more food, more cake and more fizzy drink for everyone.  I think there were some pretty tired and grumpy party folk this morning!

Thanks for sharing your special day with us Nanna Pat and Aunty/Nanna Bette,  we love you.

In the Olden Days

I know mum and dad think that all we did when we went to Nanna's birthday party was run wild, eat junk food and drink fizzy drink but it wasn't just about the party stuff, we got to learn heaps about life in the olden days.

The party was at Byramine Homestead near Yarrawonga.  It was built a really long time ago, it was one of the first house in the area.  Mrs Hume, the person that owned the house had it built so that she could feel safe living there with her 9 children after her husband died.  The house was an unusual shape and design.  There was a room in the middle of the house that was octagonal where you could pretty much see into every other room or hallway in the house.  If she felt afraid, there were plenty of hiding places, every room had some removable floor boards so that they could climb down into a cellar space to stay safe.  It was pretty amazing.  I loved being able to walk down into the cellar and then climb out through the floor boards on the verandah!

The kitchen was in the building where the servants lived!
Do you know what else I noticed?  The kitchen was outside the house, in it's own little house.

They had people live with them who did all the cooking.  I think mum would love to have someone live with us to do all of the cooking!

There was a sewing machine there so instead of the cooking mum would be able to make heaps of stuff instead.  She would make all of our clothes, our blankets, our toys.  Pretty much anything we needed she would have to make

The bedrooms were pretty big, but the beds seemed to be small.  I think that in a year or so I would be too big for the beds and my feet would be hanging over the end of them.

I also noticed that there wasn't really a bathroom there either, that would mean no showers for me.  I would have to wash a little bit, using a pitcher of water and a basin but that really wouldn't count.

There was also heaps of places to play outside and trees to climb.  This is one of the oldest non-native trees in all of Victoria!

I love going on adventures and imagining that I lived in different places but as fun as it is to try for a little while, I am glad that when I get home we have electricity, hot water and a fridge full of food!

With Dad and Dave

I went for a lovely relaxing 'walk' with Dad and Dave this morning as we hit some golf balls around the golf course.  I wasn't hoping to have a hit or 2 as we walked around but there weren't many other people playing so I got to play most holes.  It was a pretty great way to spend the morning.

We really didn't do too much walking, Dad and Dave hired a golf cart to get us around the course.
Shhh, don't tell mum but I also got to drive the cart too!

At the Lake, Again

We are still in Yarrawonga so that means we are still spending as much time as we can here, splashing about in the water,
Or just supervising those who are in the water!
I hope these holidays never end,

Fishing Fun

Can you believe that I have been living just up the road from the lake all year and it has taken me until now to actually go fishing!
Building my Fishing Rod

Learning from the expert!

Filling in time, waiting for the fish to bite!
It was worth the wait just to go fishing with Poppy, even if I didn't catch any fish.

Thanks for taking me fishing Poppy.

Prune Fingers

Just another fun day in Yarrawonga.
2 kids + hours and hours of fun in the water = prune fingers!

Crazy Cousins

Do you know what one of the best things is about having holidays in Yarrawonga? We get to hang out with new friends and our cousins!
I love hanging out with my cousins, especially with Zoe. It is great to have another girl to hang out with, even if everyone thinks we are a little strange! Come to think of it, perhaps we are strange, we made potions with things we found in the garden.
Not so sure that mixing dirt into the potions was such a great idea.
Flower petals floating in water was a little tastier.
I think the potions made us a little crazy, but we had a great time.

Splash

Our friends have continued on their holiday. I was a little worried that there would be no-one to play with but then I found out that our cousins were staying just up the road. I really wanted to hang out with my cousins but what made it even more exciting was that there was a swimming pool where they were staying!

I splashed about for ages and practiced my diving and swimming. I am getting pretty good at belly-wackers too!
I stayed in the water splashing about and practicing until my lips were starting to turn blue.
Once I warmed up, I jumped back into the pool again.

Thanks for letting us play in your pool, it was ace!

Mikey Row Your Boat

Our neighbours decided to join us on our holiday so that they could take their boat for a sail on the lake. I think it took longer to set up the boat than they had actually sailing, but it looked like they were having fun.

Even Poppy helped get the boat ready for sailing.

Eventually the sail was up and the dad's took it out for an escape from all of us!
I didn't mind, I was happy just having other friends to splash about with in the water.
Holidays with friends are fun!

On Holidays

I am on holidays, can you guess where I am?
No, I am not in the North Pole, I am in Yarrawonga and some of our friends have come along to enjoy the fun.

I think that this will be a fun few days.

Time for Sleep

Well our holiday with nan and pop has been great fun. We have been out for dinner at the club, played wii and other games, been exploring the neighbourhood and making new friends. It has been a great holiday but not a very long one. We have to go to bed early tonight as we are heading back to Melbourne really early in the morning, not because we want to go but because it is time for me to get the screws taken from my elbow.

Good night,

Holiday!

Hooray it is really time for the holidays to begin. We are pretty lucky that nan and pop came to visit us for the weekend, we were able to convince them to let us go to their house for a holiday.
I packed my bag, grabbed Squidgy and Sophie and jumped in to car ready to go.

I don't know if I will have much time to blog while I am away, but I will try.

Happy holidays,

At the River

No trip to Nanny and Poppy's house is complete without a trip to the lake. Now this is what the lake normally looks like...
but look at it now!

The lake is dry so we could walk all the way to the river, it was awesome. I love playing at the lake.

Playing With Dolls

Now everyone who knows my mum that she loves her Barbie dolls so you can imagine just how surprised I was when I asked if I could play with her Barbie dolls she said yes. We were in Yarrawonga at Nanny and Poppy's house for the weekend and mum has billions of dolls in her bedroom there and she went and got me a few dolls to play with. She handed them over and then she went back and got some more dolls for me to play with, then more and more.

Next thing I knew I was surrounded by Barbie dolls everywhere. I was so excited, it was like I was in a toy shop, then mum told me that I was allowed to play with the dolls - but I wasn't allowed to take them out of the boxes! Can you believe that? Play with the dolls but not take them out of the boxes. I thought that I was going to be tortured by the thought of so much fun that I couldn't have, then I thought of a way to 'play' with the dolls.
Look mum - playing with Barbie dolls, even if they are still in their boxes, is great fun!
