Wordless(ish) Wednesday - Fireflies

Even though Fireflies is the name of this post, it isn't about the twinkly fireflies that I saw when I was in America when I was really little, it is about the song Fireflies.  I love this song.  I love it so much that instead of sleeping, I spent my time writing the lyrics to the song on a piece of masking tape!

(Excuse the spelling, remember I am only 8!)

OK, so even the photos aren't wordless but I wanted to share!

Sundays in my City #7 - Exhausted

So it is time for a post highlighting Sundays in my City where I get to show pictures of our adventures in and around our awesome city.  Of course in a typically mad week here that included ice hockey games, hikes, high school reunions, soccer games, sleep overs and all manner of crazy, the only photos that were taken were of the soccer game.  Now for fear that I will be perceived as a Soccer Mum I didn't want to post more soccer photos here (Yes I know I am a Soccer Mum and I will post the pics, just not here - they have their own page!) I was about to dig through the archives and find photos of recent adventures to post when I hear, "Come check this out, oh and bring your camera!)  Not knowing what I would find, I crept upstairs, fearing that I would stumble upon a spider or some other creepy crawly.  Instead this is what I found.

Thank you for coming to the rescue Princess George and providing me a photo for Sundays in my City.

Sundays In My City #6 - Adventures Last Month

We are joining in with Sundays in our City again with Unknown Mami.  We were hoping to show you some photos from our weekend but other than having another billion photos of me playing soccer again (it was the local derby, Gold v Blue) we didn't have a camera with us.  Now let me just list all the things we didn't take photos of... ice skating, the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics, inline skating in the park, a barbecue in a different park, going to a baby shower for Fredwood, exploring Docklands some more and going to the ice hockey.  All of this in just one weekend and we don't have any pictures AT ALL of our adventures - EPIC FAIL!  Instead we will have to show you a few pictures of just another typical weekend.

Now in this typical weekend we still had ice skating and soccer but also a birthday party, a birthday dinner, a chance to explore new areas and go geocaching.

Look what happens when you let a 4 year old do your face painting!
Zombie Boo!
There is always time to tempt fate and jump from rock to rock through a creek!
Surprisingly he didn't fall in!
This treasure took a little while to find but it was well worth the hunt.
The best ever geocache hide!

Things I know - the Naplan Edition

I am in grade 3 at school and that means that this week was NAPLAN - National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy.  It was my first time of doing any big tests so to say I have been a little stressed would be a huge understatement.  The sister of one of my best friends has been reminding us all year long that now we would have to do NAPLAN and that it is a huge test that goes for 3 days and it is super scary.  As you can imagine, I have been more than a little bit worried about it and it didn't seem to matter what anyone said, I was still worried that I wouldn't do well.  Mum and dad were happy for me to not even do NAPLAN but then I was worried that I wouldn't be allowed to go into grade 4 next year.  To be honest, it has been pretty scary.

Now that NAPLAN is over, these are some things I know...
  • It really wasn't worth me stressing about all year long, so much fun time was lost being worried.
  • I really didn't have to worry so much about getting a good score, all I had to do was try my best and that is easy to do.
  • Even though I have to do the work, it is the school that is being tested.
  • On a scale of 1 to 100 where 100 is super important, being a good person is about a 90 (I can't be good all the time!) and Naplan is worth about a 1.
  • I am really glad that my school didn't get us to do extra classes like my friends school did.
  • It is done now and it really wasn't that hard, in fact it was kinda boring.
  • My brother calls it the napalm test.  I don't know what napalm is but is sounds interesting.
Hopefully if there is still NAPLAN in 2 years when I am in grade 5 I will remember all of this and stop worrying so much.

My family is great because...

Did you know that tomorrow is the International Day of Families?  Well it is, and it is the perfect reason to celebrate all of the reasons that our families are great.

Our class wanted to celebrate this special day but as I am in Grade 3 I, along with pretty much all the other grade 3 kids in the entire country, will be preoccupied doing something other than having fun at school.  We didn't want to miss out on celebrating the International Day of Families so we invited our families to come in to our class today for some fun.  Mum came to school and together we played board games and built things, it was great.

We were also able to share our thought gallery.  This week we finished the thought "my family is great because..."

I am so glad that I was able to celebrate this day with mum.  Hopefully we will celebrate International Day of Families next year too.

Sunday's in my City #5 - Cape Schank

So today is Mothers Day but instead of being at home all day with my children, I was here, with the man who helped me become a mother.  We had a great day yesterday celebrating the wedding of our friends and spent the morning relaxing and exploring Cape Schanck before heading home to the family.

The lighthouse in Cape Schanck, before the dark clouds rolled in and the winds picked up.
Lighthouse
Walking to Pebble Beach.
On the boardwalk
Being chased by the ocean spray.
A little too close to the waves?

The storm clouds are rolling in, the wind is picking up but it is still beautiful.
Dark clouds and rising seas, beauty in the turmoil

Thank you for sharing this parenting journey with me, I love you

Mother's Day Treat

Well normally for Mother's Day, AJ and I would want to make breakfast in bed for mum but since mum is pretty fussy about what she has for breakfast and doesn't really like us cooking bacon and eggs on our own, we usually end up going out somewhere nice for brunch.  We really wanted to do that today but we couldn't because mum and dad weren't here, they had a wedding to go to yesterday that was really far away so they had a sleepover instead of driving all the way home.

We were lucky, we had a chance to spend the weekend hanging out with Grandma until mum and dad got home this afternoon.  Then it was time to get busy in the kitchen and make a special treat for mum, and for all of us too.

I made a chocolate torte from a box, I didn't have enough chocolate to make it from scratch.  To be honest, it was delicious and it tasted like it was made from scratch anyway.

Happy Mother's Day mum, I love you

Mummy's at Cubs

It is almost Mother's Day so we are had a special Mother's Night at cubs.  All the mums were invited to come along if they could, to share in the fun.  Mum had training so she wasn't there at the start of the night so she missed out on being a real mummy.  I don't think that she was too upset, AJ volunteered to be a mummy instead!
AJ is a mummy

Luckily mum made it to cubs for the most of the fun and games.  Most importantly, she was there for the most important part, I was asked to be the Seconder for my Six and had to lower the flag at the end of the night.
Important Cub duty
I was glad mum was able to share such an important time in my Cub career.

Sundays in my City #4 - Soccer Sunday

Win Lose or Draw, whenever we play soccer we always finish up doing the same thing.

First we thank all the players in the other team...
High 5s All Round

Then we say three cheers for them, and for the ref too...
Hip Hip Hooray

Then we sing our team song...
Yep, the loudest on the team!

It is a great way to start a Sunday.

When the Queen came to Town

Did you see the Queen when she was in town?  We did.  We figured it was a nice night to go out and have some fun and what better place to have some fun other than at the beach right?

The queen was much bigger than I imagined!

We wanted to stick around until the Queen left so we filled in time the best way we know how - having fun!

Goodbye Queen Mary, I hope to visit with you another time.
